LATEST NEWS; A star player was asked, only days away from first England call up? Eddie Howe asked the question

Anthony Gordon has 14 direct goal involvements in 25 Premier League starts this season, including one PL substitute appearance, with nine goals and five assists.

This season’s Premier League average is better than one direct goal involvement every two starts.

Anthony Gordon is also demonstrating his versatility by playing across the middle when needed, netting United’s goal against Blackburn last week when Isak was substituted. The same happened against Arsenal at St James’ Park in November, when United triumphed 1-0.

The Newcastle United striker was also named player of the tournament as England’s under 21s won the under 21 Euros last summer (see above).

Anthony Gordon reveals why he returned early to Newcastle United - and it has nothing to do with Eddie Howe

You can’t help but think (and know for certain!) that if Anthony Gordon had played for a London club like Chelsea or Tottenham, he would have already made the full England squad.

With the European Championships just three months away, Gareth Southgate will announce his final England squad before the end of the Premier League season, for the March gathering and friendlies.

Any players who have yet to be selected by Southgate must be included in this March squad in order to have a chance of flying to Germany.

Eddie Howe was asked today about Anthony Gordon’s chances of making the senior England side, according to The Northern Echo – 8 March 2024.

“I’m not sure how close he is.”

“That is for Gareth to discuss, not me.

However, his form this season has been constant, and I believe that is what Gareth will be looking for—continuous performances above a certain level.

“He will be looking for goals and assists from his wingers, which he has provided as well.

“I believe he is in a very good place.

“I would advise him not to focus on England, but rather on his club form.

“Keep doing the right things for ourselves, and everything else will take care of itself.

“Anthony has done that, and I do not believe he has been distracted at any moment.

“He has remained focused on the short term and is highly determined to play every minute of every game, which I admire about him.

“His career is doing well.

“At such a young age, he has had both positive and negative experiences.” His experience at Everton will undoubtedly have enhanced him.

“That was difficult for him, just as it was the previous year.

“He has left Liverpool, which is a significant step for someone so young.

“He recently had a baby, and anyone who has gone through that as a young man understands the impact that can have on your life and mind.

“He has some really good things in his life which keep him stable, motivated to do well and fingers crossed, he can continue his form.”
