Graeme Bailey says that Leeds United may contemplate upgrading on former Barcelona star Junior Firpo at some point, especially given the high salaries he would expect next season if promoted to the Premier League.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey, speaking to Leeds United News, Junior Firpo would become one of Leeds United’s highest-paid Premier League players if the club is promoted at the end of the season.
Leeds United will face various hurdles upon promotion, including determining the fate of players presently on loan and those returning to their parent clubs. While signing new players is critical, it’s equally important to address the fates of existing players, such as left-back Firpo, who has been linked
recently moved away from Elland Road.
Leeds United could benefit from unloading Junior Firpo, a valuable backup option, due to his expensive salary if promoted from the Championship.
Graeme Bailey told Leeds United News: “If you are back in the Premier League with him, he is on very good money and will undoubtedly be one of Leeds’ highest earners in the Premier League.”
“He came from La Liga, and while you’d like to bring in a young, emerging full-back to replace Firpo, you’re not desperate.
“If you started next season with Firpo in the Premier League, ideally you want an upgrade, but he’s not a complete disaster.”
Given his minor involvement this season in Leeds’ Championship promotion bid, it would be surprising if Firpo isn’t let go by the club in the summer due to his exorbitant salary.
The Dominican international has made 12 starts in the league and has five assists.
