JUST IN : Patrick Mahomes receives the worst news and reacts to key player departure from Chiefs

Sneed will become one of the NFL’s highest-paid cornerbacks with the Tennessee Titans.
After weeks of speculation and uncertainty about the status of Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, the long-awaited trade has finally been completed.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped the bombshell late on Friday, March 22, stating that Kansas City was on the verge of closing a deal to send Sneed to the Tennessee Titans.
Schefter highlighted the expected conditions, stating that the Chiefs would receive a 2025 third-round pick as well as a 2024 seventh-round pick in return, pending Sneed’s physical check.

Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report added to the story, revealing that Sneed is set to sign a hefty four-year, 76-million-dollar contract, with a whopping 55 million guaranteed.

This discovery is a tough pill for Chiefs Kingdom to digest. Just hours before the trade, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes voiced his wish to keep Sneed in the fold. Speaking at the 101 Awards, Mahomes acknowledged his lack of power in the matter while praising Sneed’s qualities as a player and person, underlining his vital contribution to the team’s culture.

“We want everyone to receive their money. So, whatever happens, we’ll be thrilled for him. But hopefully, that will be with the Kansas City Chiefs,” Mahomes said.

How much cap space would the Chiefs save with Sneed’s departure?

The news of Sneed’s leaving sparked quick emotions from his colleagues. Chiefs safety Justin Reid expressed his support for Sneed, and defensive end Charles Omenihu summarized his feelings with a thunderous “Sheeshhh.”

Despite Sneed’s departure, the Chiefs take comfort in the financial relief of about $20 million in cap space. Nonetheless, with obvious voids in their roster, they face the onerous task of reconstructing their team ahead of the 2024 NFL season launch.
