‘Didn’t expect’ – Newcastle United star reveals surprise injury blow after undergoing surgery

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has opened up about his ACL injury, which will keep him out for six to nine months.

After teammate centre-back Sven Botman had the same injury a fortnight earlier, Lascelles was set for a run in the starting XI but was forced off just 17 minutes into the 4-3 comeback win over West Ham United.
The 30-year-old – who is under contract at St James’ Park until 2025 – is poised to miss the opening months of the 2024-25 season.

“Of course, it was difficult to accept at first, but I quickly adjusted to the situation,” Lascelles wrote in his programme notes. “I’ve always been a positive guy; all I know is to pick yourself up and get on with it, and that’s where I’m at now.
