Mark Pope is targeting another strong athlete in the portal.
The Kentucky Wildcats are looking for guards in the transfer portal who will fit in with Coach Mark Pope’s system, and this guy fits the bill perfectly.
The Kentucky coaching staff approached former Villanova player TJ Bamba, who averaged 10.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game last season. Bamba averaged 15.1 points per game during his previous season at Villanova.
He is an excellent shooter, having fired 36.9% from deep for the Villanova Wildcats this season. He is also a taller guard (6’5), which helps him get to the rim. Bamba also shot 82.4% from the free throw line, an unbelievable percentage. This will assist in late-game scenarios if
Bamba chooses Kentucky. He recently released a list of his top six schools, which includes Florida, Oregon, Louisville, Stanford, Memphis and Kentucky.
The aim now for Coach Pope’s coaching staff is to bring Bamba on campus for a visit. It appears that Bamba is closing down his recruitment now that he is focusing on six colleges, so get him on campus as soon as possible.
Bamba has a lot of college basketball experience, which appeals to college coaches. Kentucky’s roster for the 2024-25 season will be quite old, which should delight Big Blue Nation.
Last season, the Wildcats were too young, resulting in an early NCAA Tournament exit.
Coach Pope will ensure that his first roster as head coach of Kentucky is packed with veterans. Bamba is a name to remember as the lineup for the upcoming season is finalized.
