TRAGEDY NEWS: Houston Astros key player confirms death at the age of 24.

Former Houston Astros prospect Ronny Garcia died in a car accident in Samana, Dominican Republic, at the age of 24.

MLB Insider. According to Hector Gomez, Garcia was accompanied by his father, who also died in the tragedy on Saturday.
El Tiempo reports that another person was killed in an accident involving two motorcycles on the Las Galeras-Samaná route.

“The Astros are greatly grieved by the passing of former prospect Ronny Garcia. “Our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” the Astros said on Saturday morning.

Garcia was a member of the Houston Astros’ minor league system for seven years, from 2017 to 2023, with a 9-15 record in appearances.

The bullpen pitcher began his career in the Dominican Summer League before moving to the United States in 2021, where he posted an impressive 2.11 ERA in both the Florida Complex League and Class-A Fayetteville.
Returning to these clubs in 2022, he continued his success, allowing only one run in 18.1 innings.

Throughout his professional career, Garcia has a 3.42 ERA in 122 games and 186.2 innings. His statistics were 170 hits, 71 earned runs, eight home runs, 100 walks, and 200 strikeouts.

Garcia was signed by The York Revolution, a minor league team based in York, Pennsylvania, for the 2024 season.

“He’ll be a valuable addition to our bullpen,” Revolution manager Rick Forney told ABC27 a few months back. “I am delighted about him. He boasts great career numbers and has the ability to be more than a one-inning pitcher.”
Unfortunately, Garcia will not have the opportunity to continue his minor league career and maybe advance to the majors.
