QPR could be looking for a winger this summer, with a potential target emerging in Belgium. QPR are expected to look for a winger this summer, and Thibaud Verlinden has emerged as an early target. The 24-year-old is presently playing for K Beerschot VA, and the Rs are said to be interested in signing him.
According to Belgian publication Gazet van Antwerpen, Verlinden might be available for €500,000 (£427,000) and will bring Championship experience to Loftus Road. The winger began his career with Stoke City and also spent time on loan at Bolton Wanderers; Nathan Jones praised him as ‘excellent’ on his Stoke debut.
The midfielder struggled in the Championship, making only 13 first-team appearances for Stoke. He left the Potters in January 2021 and spent time in the Netherlands and Slovakia before returning to Belgium and signing with Beerschot in 2022. He has 11 goals and 17 assists in 63 games since then, helping the squad achieve promotion from the second level this season. The player is generally deployed on the left flank, but he can also play on the right. The fates of Ilias Chair and Chris Willock at QPR remain uncertain, which might add weight to rumors of a move for the Belgian next season.
Cifuentes stated on Willock’s expiring contract last month: “He knows how much we value him, and I believe he knows how much we appreciate him.
“I’m not sure what will happen in the future. What is certain is that he demonstrated today that he adores this club and wishes to play here and assist us.”
Meanwhile, Chair is still under contract with the club until next summer, but he was the subject of an offer from Trabzonspor earlier this year, raising worries about his future at QPR.
When questioned about Chair’s value to his team following the 4-0 victory over Leeds United, Cifuentes said: “I think good players always show up in crucial moments, and he demonstrates that he’s a top player for us.” I’m quite pleased with his performance. There were many good individual performances, so it would be inappropriate to single out Ilias, but he was obviously very good.”
