“Swindon is a club I hold close to my heart, I watched games there as a child with friends and family, as did my wife, it’s where i was born, and I hope it was clear that whenever I put the shirt on I always said and did what I believed was best for the club (even if at times it was controversial). I was always honest – that’s because I care.

“Thank you, Clem, for the opportunity to return. I hope that the wonderful club you imagine, and the fantastic club we all know Swindon can be, is realized as soon as possible.

“Thank you to all of the fans who have supported me throughout this and my previous stints. You have always been terrific fans, digging deep and supporting the team even when times are tough. I know a few people were still angry with me for leaving the first time, but it was normal for me to want to advance in my job, and it paid off.

“I’m sure I’ll meet you all again somewhere… As you witnessed on Saturday, there’s still plenty of life in the old hound!!”

As Austin mentions at the end, it appears that his last game for Swindon was a 3-3 tie with Morecambe, in which he scored twice.
