ROTHERHAM UNITED manager Steve Evans has praised Viktor Johansson’s attitude and modesty, as well as his evident ability as one of the Championship’s finest goalkeepers.
The Swedish international, who became a cult legend during his stint with the club, is expected to play his farewell game for the Millers on Saturday against Cardiff City at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
The 25-year-old, who has a £1 million relegation release clause in his contract, is attracting significant attention from a number of clubs, including Sheffield United and Stoke City.
Johansson will pay for the first 600 people who walk through the door at the Cutlers Arms in the town centre to have a pint on him as a show of goodwill and appreciation for supporters.The bar will open early at 9 a.m. to commemorate the event, and each drink will have a card and a special message.
Evans stated, “I think if Viktor puts money behind the bar, I’ll be there myself!
“Viktor’s been an excellent goalkeeper for the club.” Everyone is aware of the widespread interest in him.
“I’m getting calls from managers asking for my opinion on what he’s like behind the scenes.” They don’t inquire what he’s like between the sticks. They see this for themselves.
“Whether he will be with us next season remains to be seen, but I am now planning with him. He has not gone anywhere yet.
“Fans form ties with managers and players because they understand what they do and how hard they work for their team. Viktor is an exceptional skill.
“I have sat in the stands and observed him, and he has been fantastic. More significantly, he’s a great man off the pitch. He’s quite professional.
“He’s also really humble, which is different to how you sometimes find players in the Championship who have got aspirations.”
