LATEST UPDATE : Blackburn Rovers man subject of rival offers as club hold talks over new deal

Kyle McFadzean, Blackburn Rovers’ centre-back, has revealed that talks about a new contract are ongoing, although he also has ‘a couple’ offers from other teams.
In the January transfer window, Blackburn Rovers signed veteran centre-back McFadzean from Championship rivals Coventry City on a short-term contract.
After dropping down the pecking order under Mark Robins, the Sheffield-born defender earned more consistent minutes at Ewood Park. He played 13 times for Rovers as they avoided relegation under John Eustace’s leadership.
However, his future has been clouded by uncertainty. He’s out of contract this summer and turns 37 in February.

McFadzean has now clarified his situation, saying that conversations are underway about staying with Blackburn Rovers. However, he confessed to the Lancashire Telegraph that he has received ‘a couple’ more offers.

He said:

“We are currently communicating, and I have had several proposals from back home.

“I am open to that; we’ll see what occurs. We discussed it this week and hope to resolve the issue.I would like to stay, but football is unpredictable. It makes things more difficult because I’ve also received offers from local teams. We’ll see what happens, but I’d like to stay, so I’d like to arrange that.”

A useful asset.
Eustace is desperate to keep McFadzean at Blackburn Rovers, and it’s easy to see why.

The former Coventry City, Crawley Town, and Burton Albion player has extensive Championship experience and has served as a leader in various dressing rooms throughout his career. That influence on and off the pitch is extremely valuable, and it has made him a solid favourite among the Sky Blues.
Not only that, but he’s demonstrated in the second half of the season that he can still perform on the pitch.

Given Ewood Park’s current defensive needs, losing McFadzean would merely add another centre-back to the shopping list.

McFadzean’s Decision

As talks between the club and the player continue, it appears that the ball will be firmly in McFadzean’s court.

He has shown a desire to stay with Blackburn Rovers, and there is interest from both parties, so you have to believe a deal will be made.

However, with alternative offers on the table, McFadzean must make a decision on where he will play next season. He’ll be an asset wherever he goes next, but only time will tell which team he’ll be playing for in August.
