LATEST UPDATE : Wolves are poised to announcing the signing of another 27-year-old striker.

A major Southampton star is in negotiations about a summer move away from the club ahead of their play-off semi-final against West Brom. Che Adams, a Southampton striker, is in talks to join Premier League side Wolves.

According to Football Transfers, the Scotland international is in early talks with the Midlands club over a potential summer move.

Adams is poised to become a free agent at the end of the season, prompting concerns about his future at St. Mary’s.

The 27-year-old has been a fixture in the team since coming from Birmingham City in 2019, but he could be leaving the Hampshire club.

Adams has appeared 40 times for Southampton this season, scoring 16 goals and assisting four times as Russell Martin’s side competes for promotion to the Premier League (all statistics from Fbref).

Wolves have previously been linked with a move for Che Adams, but a summer deal was rejected by the Saints last summer.

Southampton striker Che Adams
According to reports, Gary O’Neil is interested in Adams this summer as part of his efforts to bolster the team’s attacking options.

Wolves are nearing an agreement to sign the Southampton forward, with advanced talks between the player and the Premier League team.

Despite the fact that the Saints are still striving for promotion to the Premier League, positive negotiations have taken place about a summer transfer.
Martin’s team will play West Brom on Friday night in the second leg of their play-off semi-final, with Adams’ availability still uncertain.

Che Adams
The striker was unable to make the bench for last Sunday’s first leg at the Hawthorns, which ended 0-0.

It remains to be seen whether his negotiations with Wolves will influence his selection, since uncertainty about his future may distract him ahead of such an important game in Southampton’s season.

Adams was linked with moves to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United in the last year, but he stayed with Southampton in the Championship following their relegation a year ago.

However, Wolves appear to be leading the race to sign him this summer, just before his contract expires.

Che Adams’ Importance to Southampton
Adams has played regularly for Southampton in recent years, totaling 164 league matches since coming from Birmingham.

During that span, he scored 41 goals and assisted 17 times, helping the Saints finish 11th, 15th, 15th, 20th, and fourth in the standings.

After being relegated from the Premier League last year, a lot of players left St. Mary’s, but Adams stayed to help Martin’s club battle for automatic promotion.

The south coast club lost out on a top two berth by nine points, but they are now two wins away from securing promotion via the playoffs.
Adams will benefit from this move.

If this deal is finalized, Adams will return to the Premier League next season regardless of the outcome of Southampton’s play-off campaign.

The Scot has taken advantage of his contract status to make a wise career move, and his results in the Championship indicate that he should still be playing in the top division.

Wolves are in need of a forward this summer, and they are acting rapidly to improve a critical area of the team, which is wise business on their behalf.

This will come as a blow to the Saints, but they still have Ross Stewart and Adam Armstrong to select from in attack heading into the summer, so they will not be short on choices if no replacement is found.
