How is former Charlton Athletic midfielder faring at Hibernian after his summer sale?

In the summer, Charlton Athletic sold goalkeeper Joe Wollacott, ending his time at The Valley after just one season.
Wollacott had to work his way up the ranks of the English Football League. After graduating from Bristol City’s academy, the keeper underwent a number of loan periods in England’s lower leagues before getting his first shot with Forest Green Rovers in League Two.

In 15 games, he had nine clean sheets while conceding only nine goals. Wollacott, on the other hand, struggled to secure a starting berth at The New Lawn and would return to Ashton Gate in January.

Wollacott would join Swindon Town on a permanent basis in 2021, signing in the summer following a brief temporary loan earlier that year. A successful season at the County Ground earned him a move to Charlton Athletic, where he followed Ben Garner after he left the County Ground.

The 27-year-old began as Garner’s no.1 but a damaged finger forced him to miss time. During his absence, Dean Holden replaced Garner and Ashley Maynard-Brewer became the no.1, leading in a summer transfer to Hibernian.

11-time Lee Johnson lured Ghana international Wollacott to Easter Road, but the former Sunderland and Bristol City manager was fired in August, resulting in another management change for the goalie quickly after joining a new club. Johnson has now taken up as manager of Fleetwood Town, and Nick Montgomery has been selected as his replacement.

Wollacott made his debut in an early August Europa Conference League qualifier against IC d’Escaldes, but he was forced to withdraw after only 19 minutes.

The former Charlton Athletic player has been out with a thigh injury since then. He was supposed to be out until late September, so the hope is that he can return quickly. Time will tell whether he can become new boss Montgomery’s number one.
