According to reports, Huddersfield Town is eyeing the acquisition of Kallum Cesay, the Sierra Leone international who was released by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. Cesay, a versatile player with the ability to perform as a fullback, winger, or midfielder, recently underwent trials with German club Werder Bremen. During these trials, he left a positive impression on the club’s Director of Football, Clemens Fritz. Fritz stated, “He performed well in both his athletic abilities and personal demeanor. It’s not easy for a young player to secure a spot in a strong team, and he was aware of the scrutiny he was under. He came across as open. We will be in discussions with his agent, but no final decision has been made yet.”
Despite his promising trials, Cesay ultimately did not make the move to Germany. However, there are reports from Yorkshire Live suggesting that Huddersfield Town, a Championship side, is actively pursuing a permanent deal with the 21-year-old player. Cesay recently featured for Huddersfield in a Central League Cup match against Rotherham United, which Huddersfield convincingly won 5-1 at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex. In this game, Cesay started as a midfielder for the Yorkshire club and reportedly left a positive impression during the first 45 minutes
Huddersfield Town’s next match is scheduled in two weeks at the John Smith’s Stadium against Queens Park Rangers, a team facing the threat of relegation. If the deal materializes, Cesay may become a part of Darren Moore’s squad for this significant fixture.
In the writer’s opinion, Huddersfield Town stands to benefit from signing Cesay, especially considering that he is a free agent, and the club would only need to cover his wages. At the age of 21, Cesay has already earned four caps for the Sierra Leone national team, scoring two goals, one of which was from a penalty. Therefore, it would be unwise for Moore not to approve this transfer.
