According to sources cited by Football Insider, Leon Bailey is set to receive a new contract offer from Aston Villa if he consistently plays during the remainder of the 2023-24 season. The club is reportedly planning to initiate discussions with the 26-year-old before the start of the new year. However, it’s worth noting that manager Unai Emery has expressed concerns about Bailey’s injury history and his ability to stay fit.
Bailey’s current contract is due to expire in June 2025, leaving him with 18 months remaining on his deal by the January transfer window. Since his £25 million arrival in 2021, Bailey has not fully met the expectations associated with his transfer. He initially signed a four-year deal with Villa, earning a reported weekly wage of £100,000.
In the new season, the Jamaican international has had a decent start, contributing four goals and two assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. However, he has struggled to secure a consistent spot in the starting lineup for Premier League matches, having not been named in the first eleven for the last four top-flight games.
Bailey, who faced fitness problems in his first season in England and recently missed a game due to a minor injury, is considered a valuable asset for Emery’s squad depth, especially with Aston Villa participating in the Europa Conference League and aiming to compete at the highest levels of English football.
Since his arrival at the club, Bailey has accumulated 10 goals and eight assists in 65 appearances. Aston Villa currently occupies the fifth position in the Premier League after winning five of their first eight top-flight matches. Additionally, during the international break, Leon Bailey represented Jamaica in games against Haiti and Grenada.
