Six 6 Premier League clubs are currently interested in a prospective Sunderland player during the January transfer window.

Clarke, aged 22, is having an impressive season in the Championship, having scored seven goals so far. Burnley, who have been interested in him for a while, failed to sign him in the summer transfer window but remain keen on him. Additionally, Brighton and Crystal Palace have been closely monitoring Clarke since last season and are planning to intensify their interest in the January transfer window. Bournemouth, Brentford, and Wolves are also interested but are less likely to pursue Clarke. It’s worth noting that Tottenham, his former club, could potentially receive up to 50% of any future sale of Clarke.

Tottenham acquired Clarke from Leeds United in 2019 for an initial fee of £8.5 million, but he was later sold to Sunderland, though the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed. Sunderland is currently in 4th place in the Championship under the management of Tony Mowbray.

Sunderland is faced with a challenging decision regarding Clarke. On one hand, they have a significant opportunity to strive for a return to the Premier League, with Clarke potentially playing a crucial role in achieving this goal. On the other hand, Championship clubs often rely on selling players to sustain themselves, so an offer of £20 million for Clarke might be too tempting to reject. For Clarke, a move to the Premier League could also be too appealing to turn down, given his strong performance this season, which arguably warrants another top-flight transfer. This weekend, Sunderland will face Stoke City in the Championship.
