Austin — During an offseason filled with pledges and roster additions, the Texas Longhorns have once again prepared for the future by adding the sixth pledge to their 2025 recruiting class.
On Sunday, Texas received a commitment from Lance Jackson, a 2025 Pleasant Grove (Texarkana, TX) athlete who plays tight end and defense. He announced the news on X (previously Twitter).
The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder chose Texas over Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and other universities.
“I just know they will get me to my full potential,” he told On3. “I love the way coach PK and coach Sark coach. Also, I think PK is just a good dude. When my brother was getting recruited by him when he was at Washington it was one
of his favorite recruiters as well. I love the town of Austin and just know it’s where I want to be.” As a freshman in 2022, Jackson posted 63 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two pass breakups. When Ja’Tavion Sanders arrived in Austin, he faced outside doubts regarding his ability at tight end. There were some that felt a role on the defensive line suited him best. It’s clear who ended up being wrong.
Jackson, on the other hand, embraces his versatility and now provides the Longhorns with a dynamic player who can play in two different positions. Because of Pete Kwiatkowski’s role in Jackson’s recruitment, he is expected to stay on the defensive side of the ball, although he provides Steve Sarkisian options.
