Charlton Athletic have signed Lewis Ward, a former Swindon Town goalkeeper, on a contract until the end of the season.
The 26-year-old appeared eight times for the Robins this season before leaving last week.
He will boost the goalkeeping ranks for the remainder of the season, with a club option for an additional year.
Ward told the club website, “I’m quite excited. They want me to come in, compete, and propel the goalkeeping department forward.”
Addicks manager Michael Appleton stated, “We’ve needed a third goalkeeper since Sam Walker left the club, and Lewis will offer a wealth of experience. It’s an opportunity for Ash [Maynard-Brewer] and Harry [Isted] to advance, and competition for positions will increase.”
Ward began his career with Reading and has since moved on to play for Exeter City and Sutton United, as well as two periods at Swindon, most recently as a player-youth coach.
