Medical booked : Sunderland fantastic star jets out to join new club

According to Football Insider, Sunderland winger Jewison Bennette has agreed to sign on loan with Greek club Aris for the balance of the 2023-24 season.

Bennette, 19, is scheduled to fly to Greece this weekend to undergo a medical and complete his transfer to the Thessaloniki-based team.

The Costa Rica international has fallen down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light this season.

He has only made two senior appearances in the 2023-24 season and is looking for regular first-team experience elsewhere.

The teenager has made five more appearances for Sunderland’s Under-21 team in Premier League 2 competition, scoring one goal and assisting twice.

Bennette had also been connected with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian, but Aris has won the race to take him on loan for the remainder of the season.

The winger joined Sunderland from Costa Rican club Herediano in 2022 and has made 20 senior appearances for the Black Cats, scoring two goals and assisting twice.

He is under contract at the Stadium of Light until June 2026, with the Wearside club having the option to extend the term for a another 12 months.
Bennette, 19, is a fully-fledged Costa Rica international, having scored two goals in 13 matches for his country since making his debut in August 2021.

Aris are sixth in Greece’s top league this season, whereas Sunderland are tenth under new manager Michael Beale, who has won only two of six Championship games since taking over on December 18.
