Latest Wolves transfer news: A unsuccessful offer for a striker emerges from Portugal.
Wolves were unsuccessful in their rumored pursuit of Vitoria Guimares attacker Jota Silva, according to Portuguese media.
It is well reported that Gary O’Neil has been looking for a striker, but their options have been limited due to Financial Fair Play regulations. According to the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Silva was an option.
Wolves and five other teams were interested, but none of them could persuade Guimares to part ways with the 24-year-old attacker. Milan, Nantes, Villarreal, Nice, and Toulouse were all interested, with some making ‘actual offers’, some making approaches, and some simply expressing interest but failing to act.
Silva has nine goals and six assists for Guimares in Portugal’s first flight, and the club has done all possible to keep him for the rest of the season. It has been reported that a summer move could be conceivable because his current contract runs.
out in 2025 and so he would be entering the final year of his contract which could mean that Vitoria could consider cashing in on him.
Several strikers have been linked with a move to Molineux but so far Wolves have been unable to finalise a deal for any of them. Chelsea are open to loaning out Armando Broja who is a target for Wolves as well as Fulham but both are put off by the £5m loan fee. Wolves were unsuccessful in an attempt to sign Broja this week after the Blues were keen to include an obligation-to-buy in the deal.
West Ham striker Danny Ings has also been suggested as a possible target but he seems unlikely to depart the London Stadium. PSG front man Hugo Ekitike is another and Eintracht Frankfurt have increased their initial loan-to-buy offer to PSG to €18m.
