NEWS FLASH: Newcastle United ‘enters competition’ to re- sign former star, with two major PL clubsAA also ‘interested’

One of the front-runners to re-sign a striker who previously spent three years with the team is Newcastle United.

Callum Wilson, who scored the most goals for the Magpies previous season, and club-record acquisition Alexander Isak make up their potent frontline right now.

However, they are currently being connected to a massive deal to re-sign Ivan Toney, a striker for Brentford.

In 2015, Newcastle acquired Toney from Northampton Town. Under Steve McClaren’s direction, the striker only made two substitute appearances and was given a number of loan stints at Wigan Athletic, Barnsley (twice), Shrewsbury Town, Scunthorpe United, and Barnsley (twice).

Rafael Benitez, the manager, decided to sell Toney to Peterborough for somewhere about £1 million since the forward was unable to make the first squad, which at the time had Dwight Gayle and Alexander Mitrovic.

Toney has established himself as a prolific goal scorer since 2018, and he is now recognized as one of England’s most gifted strikers.

Before the 2019–20 season was ended due to Covid, Toney scored an incredible 24 goals in 32 appearances. The following season, he continued to flourish at Brentford, scoring 31 goals to lead the team to its first top-flight promotion in 74 years.

Toney has been steady in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals in his first full season and an astonishing 20 goals the previous campaign.

Due to gambling offenses, the striker’s football career is currently on hold, and he won’t be able to rejoin the Brentford squad until January 17, 2024.

However, according to FootballTransfers, some of the top clubs in the league, notably Newcastle United, have taken notice of him due to his performance in prior seasons.
Newcastle, according to football writer Steve Kay, are looking for a long-term striker who can consistently score 20 goals. The club could need to find a replacement soon because Callum Wilson is presently 31 and his current contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
