Los Angeles Rams has find in new quarterback, as Matthew Stafford is off for a longtime injury

Winn is expected to sign with the team’s practice squad.
After being spurned by one familiar face in John Wolford, the Los Angeles Rams have turned to another.

In the wake of Matthew Stafford’s injury to his throwing hand — sprained UCL in right thumb — the Rams are scrambling to find another body at the quarterback position. If Stafford were to be unable to play this week, Los Angeles would turn to Brett Rypien. But after Rypien on the depth chart, there’s a lot of uncertainty.

According to The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue, the Rams are hoping to add quarterback Dresser Winn to the team’s practice squad, pending a physical. Winn was with the team in training camp, and also punted in college, which is notable since Rams punter Ethan Evans has a sprained ankle.

Rodrigue added that she thinks that Los Angeles’ attempt to sign Wolford off Tampa Bay’s practice squad points to how they feel about Stafford’s thumb injury. However, they need to wait for the swelling to go down to make any proclamations one way or another.

As for Winn, he signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Tennessee at Martin following the 2023 NFL Draft. He finished his college career at UT Martin with the fifth-most passing yards, fifth-most touchdown passes, and fourth-most completions in program history.

He played sparingly in the Rams’ preseason finale, completing 3-of-5 passes for 21 yards.

While Winn knows the offense, his having to see any significant time on the field would point to things going very wrong for a Rams team, who will likely be without Stetson Bennett for the remainder of the season.
