Reading manager Ruben Selles has disclosed that Ovie Ejaria is no longer dealing with an injury, but there is a need for an improvement in his attitude before he can make a comeback to the first-team. The 25-year-old hasn’t featured in the first-team for an entire year, initially sidelined due to an injury under Paul Ince’s tenure.
After recovering from his long-term injury, Ejaria is currently undergoing training with Noel Hunt’s Under-21s to regain his fitness. Nevertheless, Selles continues to have reservations about Ejaria’s attitude.
Selles remarked, “This issue has been with him since we arrived at the club when he was already injured. He remained sidelined until the end of September, during which we have been gradually building up his fitness with the Under-21s.” Selles made these comments in anticipation of the FA Cup match against MK Dons.
Selles further stated, “I am waiting for him to regain his top form and become match-ready, and only then will I make a decision. He must demonstrate his commitment and desire to play for our team. Currently, he is not injured; he is working on improving his fitness for potential match appearances. He needs to convey his willingness to play and contribute to this football club.”
Selles emphasized the importance of Ejaria being fully fit to participate in football matches, and once the management determines that he is fit, they will assess his level of commitment. Ejaria will be included in the lineup if the decision is made in his favor. However, Selles emphasized that Ejaria must exhibit a strong desire to play under his leadership.
Ejaria was the last player for whom Reading paid a transfer fee when he permanently joined the club in 2020.
