New Zealand rugby star Beauden Barrett has committed to another Rugby World Cup cycle, extending his contract with New Zealand Rugby until the end of 2027. The announcement was made on Monday, and the All Blacks head coach, Scott Robertson, praised Barrett’s “class” and acknowledged his significant contribution to the team.
Currently playing for Tokyo Verblitz in Japan, the 32-year-old will return to New Zealand in the coming year, making himself available for All Blacks selection. Barrett, a two-time World Player of the Year with 123 caps for New Zealand, is set to rejoin the Auckland-based Blues in Super Rugby in 2025, as stated in a release by New Zealand Rugby.
Robertson expressed gratitude for having Barrett’s experience and knowledge back in the New Zealand rugby scene, emphasizing his loyalty as the second most-capped All Black back in history.
Barrett, a key member of the All Blacks team that narrowly lost to South Africa in the World Cup final in October, highlighted the immense privilege of wearing the black jersey and expressed that it’s a responsibility he will never take for granted. The talented playmaker made his debut for the All Blacks in 2012, amassing 734 points and 43 tries while securing a World Cup victory in 2015.
The Rugby World Cup in 2027 is scheduled to take place in Australia. Barrett’s commitment ensures his presence and leadership for the All Blacks during this upcoming World Cup cycle.
