BREAKING NEWS : Auburn Tigers football has lost an important staff member

Auburn football has lost a key staff member.
The Auburn Tigers have lost a key employee.

Auburn has been refilling its coaching staff in recent weeks, following the loss of two coordinators and a few of position coaches. Trovon Reed, the director of football and recruiting relations, has left to join Gus Malzahn and the UCF Knights.

He will take up an on-field role as the Knights’ cornerbacks coach.

“It’s a new day for Auburn,” Reed remarked of the Tigers only a month ago. “We are not afraid. We are going to compete. We’re also going to compete on that field. We are coming. Not only will we be on the field, but we will also be recruiting and doing other things.”

Reed was possibly in line for an on-field position with Auburn this offseason, but has now transferred to UCF. Reed played eight seasons in the NFL with five different clubs before moving to the AAF for one season and the XFL for another.

Reed was hired as player relations coordinator in 2021, and he was then upgraded to director of football and player relations.

Auburn just lost both defensive coordinator Ron Roberts to the Florida Gators and safeties coach Zac Etheridge to the Houston Cougars. Charles Kelly, a new staff member, is slated to fill both positions. Kelly was widely considered as one of the nation’s greatest recruiters during his stint with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Tigers’ next move in terms of staffing is unknown, as they are currently looking for a co-defensive coordinator to work alongside Kelly.
