Rotherham United are reportedly leading Barnsley and Huddersfield in a race to sign 27-year-old midfielder

Barnsley, Huddersfield Town, and Rotherham United are reportedly keeping an eye on Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers.
Danny Rohl found Byers, a popular personality in S6, surplus to requirements after he had been on the Wednesday books since 2021. He was allowed to join Blackpool on loan in February and proved to be a success at Bloomfield Road.

Although the Tangerines missed out on the League One play-offs, Byers sparkled with a handful of all-action midfield performances. It looks unlikely that he will return to the Owls this summer, despite having a large number of admirers.

According to The Star, Barnsley, Huddersfield, and Rotherham are all keeping an eye on the 27-year-old. All three clubs will play in League One next season, after the latter two were relegated from the second division.

Birmingham City became the third club to lose their Championship status, and they are also rumored to be interested in Byers. Blackpool, who signed the midfielder on loan, is also reportedly interested.

Although the majority of the interest is thought to be from League One, Byers may have a shot in the second division. Bolton Wanderers and Oxford United will face off in the League One play-off final, and both clubs have reportedly made queries.
Byers has made 78 appearances for Wednesday, scoring 14 goals.
