According to Calciomercato, Manchester United are interested in signing Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who is also being pursued by AC Milan.
The 25-year-old is one of Ligue 1’s top holding midfielders, and he was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League last summer.
Nottingham Forest made a late offer before the transfer deadline, but Fofana chose to stay at Monaco rather go to City Ground.
Calciomercato now reports that the Rossoneri are planning a summer move for the midfield enforcer, but they will face stiff competition from the Premier League.
United and West Ham are mentioned as sides to watch out for.
Monaco is aware of Fofana’s wish to depart and is seeking roughly €30 million to sell him.
Fofana will not be an enhancement over Casemiro.
Casemiro has had a rough second season with United. He has been out with three ailments, and his performances have decreased significantly since his first campaign.
United require an upgrade on him for next season. Fofana has been mentioned as a potential target, but we don’t feel he would perform better than the veteran Brazilian.
Fofana has performed well defensively, winning 4.9 duels per game and making 1.9 tackles. He has also made an astounding 7.3 recoveries, winning 61% of his take-ons.
Casemiro’s biggest flaws have been his lack of ball control and tendency for being dispossessed. When we look at it, Fofana is not a better option than the former Real Madrid player.
We would personally prefer that the club sign Benfica wonderkid Joao Neves. The Red Devils are reportedly willing to pay more than €100 million to sign the 19-year-old.
