LATEST UPDATE : Wolves keen to sign “very talented” player for O’Neil ahead of Liverpool

The Old Gold will have tough competition for the player.
Wolves are hoping to beat Liverpool to the acquisition of a “very talented” player ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window.

Wolves transfer rumors
Wolves have had a mixed 2023/24 season, which is expected to end in a painful manner. Gary O’Neil’s side appeared to be on track to compete for some type of European football in the latter months of the Premier League season. However, four losses and one win in their last five league games have pushed the Black Cats to the bottom part of the table, with a top-seven finish now out of the question.

However, the Midlands team has not had a completely terrible season, as their 46 points this season are already five more than they got in 2022/23. However, if O’Neil and co. want to move forward next season and make a serious bid for European football, they will most certainly need to bolster their squad.

While the summer transfer market has not yet opened, Wolves appear to be extremely active in terms of transfers. It was reported last month that Wolves are interested in Red Star Belgrade midfielder Hwang In-beom as they seek to bolster their team this summer. Another rumor from late April suggested that Gary O’Neil’s side had submitted a €12 million (£10.2 million) bid for Fenerbahce right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel.

Wolves are rumored to be interested in signing Justin Njinmah from Werder Bremen, as well as Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohamed Amoura, though Liverpool is also thought to be interested in the hitman.

Wolves may face competition from Liverpool for more than only Amoura this summer, with a new name reportedly attracting interest from both Premier League clubs.

Wolves want to recruit “very talented” player for O’Neil ahead of Liverpool.
The player in question is Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. According to reputable source Alan Nixon of Football League World, the Wolves have Patterson on their wishlist as they seek to replace Jose Sa.

Liverpool, meanwhile, were linked with a deal for Patterson in January as they look for a new number two goalkeeper at Anfield, and Nixon says the Reds’ interest in the shot-stopper remains.
No transfer fee is stated in the report, but Nixon does indicate that Sheffield United, another interested party, is willing to pay £8 million for Patterson’s services. Given that the goalie recently signed a new long-term contract at the Stadium of Light, which may keep him at the club until 2028, the Black Cats are in a strong bargaining position heading into the summer.

Patterson, born in Newcastle, is a Sunderland academy product who, despite being only 23, has firmly established himself as the club’s number one. He has already made 123 first-team appearances for the North East club, and his outstanding performances earned him high acclaim from former boss Tony Mowbray after facing Fulham in the FA Cup last year.

“The goalkeeper… listen, he’s a top goalkeeper,” Mowbray stated following the Fulham game. “I’ve been playing football for over 40 years, and this youngster is a really brilliant boy with an incredible disposition. Nothing fazes him; he’s quite calm about everything, and he’s not bouncing around and losing his mind. He’s a very calm goaltender who makes excellent saves.”
